Here are some snapshots from our Public Star watch at Batsto Village on August 9,
2008. We had a great turnout -- this photo shows eighteen of the more than
twenty who participated (along with Peanut the Wonder Dog, our unofficial
mascot).
Another
pose of the assembled group (taken by Paul's daughter)...
Meanwhile, Lloyd was giving his fine PowerPoint presentation inside the visitor
center's auditorium...
The
lineup of cars looked like a parking lot...
Here's a
view from the observing side of the cars...
Looking
south at 7:53 pm (shortly before sunset), the moon shines through a gap in the
broken clouds...
Looking
northeast at 10:41 pm, Cassiopeia appears between some moonlit clouds... (can
you spot M31?)
Then
looking a little left and down, we see observers illuminated by moonlight...
Finally,
looking south at 10:47 pm, we see brilliant Jupiter in Sagittarius between the
Teaspoon and the Teapot;
a few thin clouds bathed in moonlight remain, but some DSOs are visible too...
